The InterContinental Hotels Group preferred supplier!
InterContinental Hotels Group will reduce its environmental impact by introducing EcoPure Waters’ filtered water systems across its UK and Ireland estate.
IHG is seeking to introduce in-house filtered water across its estate of 334 hotels and resorts in the UK and Ireland to reduce the environmental damage caused by the creation, transportation and disposal of glass and plastic bottles. EcoPure Waters is the preferred supplier of the systems and equipment which will allow IHG to serve filtered chilled water, still and sparkling, in reusable branded glass bottles. These systems offer operators significant benefits by reducing their environmental impact, lowering their overall costs and providing a powerful branding statement.
Karan Khanna, Managing Director, UKI Operations at IHG, explains the importance of the initiative: “Switching from mineral water to filtered water with reusable glass bottles will have a big impact on our carbon footprint, as a significant amount of energy is used in creating and transporting glass and plastic mineral water bottles. For example, a typical Crowne Plaza hotel can reduce its CO2 footprint by over one ton a year when filtered water is introduced into its meeting rooms. Furthermore, filtered water enables our hotels to reduce their bottled water and waste costs. 25 hotels across the UK and Ireland – including Interstate-owned Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn locations – have already introduced EcoPure Waters’ systems and seen cost benefits as a result,” he adds.
The move is part of part of IHG’s ‘Green Engage’ initiative which gives their hotels the means to measure and manage their impact on the environment. Hotels can choose from over 200 ‘Green Solutions’ that are designed to help them reduce their energy, water and waste, and improve their impact on the environment. By introducing pure filtered water in branded bottles for meetings, breakfast, fitness centre and energy stations, IHG seeks to attract corporate and individual customers for whom responsible business is important.
EcoPure Waters’ mains water filtration systems deliver chilled water, still and sparkling, on demand for serving in reusable glass bottles. A wide range of equipment is available to suit the volume of water used by the hotel. To ensure Health and Safety requirements are met, full training is provided for staff when the system is installed. The ongoing operational use of the system is quick and easy, particularly when the labour-saving ‘top control’ system is specified which allows measured autofill of bottles at the push of a button. Branded bottles, in a choice of sizes and styles, are supplied with the system.
EcoPure Waters, who have been supplying filtration systems into major hotels for more than 20 years, was chosen to partner IHG for a number of reasons, explains Kerrie Page, Director, IHG Operations Support, Europe. “EcoPure Waters’ equipment has been piloted successfully at several hotels. They provide high quality equipment, good customer service and the six-monthly maintenance required to adhere to IHG’s brand standards. EcoPure also provided the most commercially attractive offer we could find in the UK and Ireland,” she adds.
EcoPure Waters’ Managing Director Paul Proctor is delighted with the IHG partnership. “For more than 20 years we’ve been helping clients save money, reduce their environmental impact and create powerful branding opportunities by using our in-house water filtration systems and branded bottles in place of bought-in bottled water. Against the current backdrop of extreme concern about the excessive use of plastics across the globe, it’s particularly pleasing that our systems and benefits are being recognised and implemented by one of the world’s leading hotel companies,” Paul says.
